Tenor OWEN METSILENG was born into a musical family in Rustenburg /South-Africa , at the foot of the Pilanesberg Mountain, and started singing at an early age, both at school and in church.
Competitions included a prize at the Tirisano Schools Choral Eisteddfod and <National Champion Award> at the SACMA Competition.
Subsequently, he was member of the Black Tie Ensemble and joined the Cape Town Opera Studio as a BARITONE.
At Cape Town Opera Studio, his parts included DANCAÏRO in Bizet's "Carmen" and BARONE DOUPHOL in Verdi's "La traviata" and he covered the part of GIORGIO GERMONT.
In addition, Owen performed JAKE in Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess" and MARCELLO in Puccini's "La Bohème" on a Cape Town Opera UK-Tour.
And on a world-wide tour, he appeared in the title-role of Verdi's MACBETH with the Third World Bunfight Company at the Cape Town Artscape, the Kunsten Festival des Arts Bruxelles, the Rotterdamse Operadagen, the Brauschweiger Theaterformen, the Barbican Center London, the Girona Tomporade Atla, the Lisboa Maria Matos Teatro Municipale, the Athene Festival, the Le Parvis Tarbes, the Théâtre Garonne in Toulouse, the Théâtre Maillon Strassbourg, the Festival d’automne Montreuil and La Ferme du Buisson Festival, both in Paris, the L’Hippodrome Doua, as well as at Opera Philadelphia and the Wiener Festwochen.
In addition, he performed at the Auckland Festival Gwangju, the Opening Festival of the Asian Culture Complex Arts Theatre in South-Korea, at Kampnagelfabrik Hamburg, the FIBA Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and in Santiago de Chile.
After his CHANGE from baritone to TENOR, Owen Metsileng performed as SOLO-TENOR in Mozart's "Requiem" on a Belgium-wide-tour with Alain Platel’s company Les Ballets C dela B and as GORO in Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" at Theater Lübeck.
In addition, he reached the 3rd Round at the renowned BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, was awarded "Prominent Talent" at the Voices of South Africa Competition, reached the finals of the UNISA International Voice Competition and 2 x the Finals of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition.
Due to the Covid-pandemic, his just starting career as tenor took a hit, and Owen had to take a break from solo-commitments; but not from singing. For 2 seasons, he was a member of the State-Opera-Choir at Hamburg State Opera.
In the 2025/26, her returns to stage again as a soloist with a dream-role: Verdi's OTHELLO, which will bring him to the Meiningen State Theatre.
And in the 2026/27, he will move on with Othello to house-debuts in France and Belgium.
